Digital sovereignty

Most European organisations run their critical work on technology they don’t control. Reducing that dependence is a transformation, not just a tool swap. It changes contracts, skills, processes, and habits, and it has to be led like any other change programme.

How it usually goes wrong

  • Nobody has a full picture of which critical systems, data, and vendors are outside European control.
  • The risk stays invisible until a price rise, a licence change, or a political event makes it urgent.
  • Sovereignty is handed to IT as a migration project, so the organisation keeps working the old way.
  • A big-bang switch is planned, then quietly abandoned.

What I do

  • Strategic analysis: map your critical dependencies, assess the risks, and set out realistic options, from staying put with safeguards to a staged exit.
  • Operational analysis: for one platform at a time, look at how locked in you are and what a move would take in people, process, data, and contracts.
  • Run it as a transformation: plan and lead the change in stages your organisation can absorb, using the same delivery discipline as any large programme, including risk management.

My analysis builds on the Digital Sovereignty framework developed through nupath.eu, a news and analysis site on European digital sovereignty.

Ways to work together

  • Free 30-minute call: talk through where you stand.
  • Sovereignty quick scan: a half-day deep dive that maps your critical dependencies and names the biggest risks, with a written follow-up. See the sessions
  • Embedded analysis or programme: typically one to six months.
